Coil Sea is the brainchild of a certain Dave Heumann from the brilliant doomy americana act Arbouretum. Assembling a team of like-minded musicians he's set out to create an atmosphere where each person was comfortable enough to play off each other - which has resulted in this largely improvised and instrumental LP. This is all cyclical bass grooves and droning guitars, with some added screech thrown in for good measure. Sometimes this results in something really quite hypnotising and enjoyable as on closing track 'Walking the Naga' with its almost Arabic sounding percussion; elsewhere though it just sounds meandering and aimless with a track like 'Revert to Dirt' seemingly going nowhere. An intriguing idea that needs to be fully realised.
