The Blue Eyed Shark Experiment - The Fluffer
The name may be unusual, but then Blue Eyed Shark Experiment comes from an equally unusual background. BES is a musical project hailing from Palau, who has played with the likes of Johnny Cash and Radiohead before making his name. BES overcame the death of his father at the age of eight, endured troublesome teen years, heartbreak in his twenties and then survived cancer, so it is fair to say he has some life experience, all of which is less obvious in his music, however. The Fluffer is a surprisingly upbeat musical treat, taking you on a whimsical journey through piano instrumentals, phone conversations and harmonious hymn-like rock. From the softly sounding 'Beautiful' to electro dance buzz of 'Jetplane', BES delivers a different sound with every track. Just when you think you can pin him down as an artist he takes you on a completely different musical trip: think of Eels mixed with Polyphonic Spree and you’d be on the right tracks to label the style of BES. An upbeat, melodic and joyful affair, The Fluffer will ultimately be labelled as one of those ‘perfect for summer’ albums, taking those classic sing-a-long choruses and catchy guitar hooks and merging them with an experimental sound to come up with something like a Strawberry Martini - a completely fresh twist on a classic.
