Bombay Bicycle Club - Flaws

Not knowing too much about Bombay Bicycle Club it was hard for me to reconcile the quiet, studious looking young men drafted in to perform 'Ivy & Gold' on the BBC’s Glastonbury coverage with the ones I’d recently seen making a fair racket supporting Biffy Clyro at Ibiza Rocks. Anyway, you can keep your trancestep or whatever; for me, 'Ivy & Gold', the little song with the cantering rhythm and timeless acoustic guitar riff, is one of the highlights of summer 2010. It’s a bit disappointing then that nothing else on this album is quite as hummable. Flaws does have the air of being a rather earnest diversion rather than a major release, with every track getting the acoustic treatment and most none too distinguishable from the last. Without the bite of say Mumford & Sons’ debut, Flaws remains little more than a pleasant option for a sunny afternoon.
