Miss Kittin - Requiem For A Hit
"Show me your tits, and let's make a hit." So begins Requiem For A Hit, arguably the best track from Miss Kittin's I Com album and the second to be released as a single. With guest vocalist L.A. Williams repeating "I beat that bitch with a hit" over a pumping beat, you might be forgiven for thinking this is another slice of misogynistic 'urban' music until Miss Kittin's own interjections. This works - brilliantly - both as a comment on the female role in the music industry (I think the word is "irony") and as a visceral urban/dance tune.
For once, the remixes are of a similarly high standard. The Glove Radio Mix places more emphasis on the original's melodic aspects and adds something close to a Knight Rider sample. Meanwhile the Abe Duque and Ge-Gm remixes are gleefully nostalgic, the former including acieeed burblings, the latter breaks and chunky house piano.
The track's language means it won't get the radio exposure of Flashdance (out the same week), which is a shame, as, on its own quirky terms, this deserves to be just as huge.
