Dean & Britta - 13 Most Beautiful
Having toured it for the last eighteen months Dean & Britta finally get around to releasing the soundtrack of their 13 Most Beautiful: Songs For Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests DVD. The project, commissioned by the Warhol museum, saw the former Galaxie 500 man and his Luna bandmate, create a suite of musical accompaniments to the silent films produced by Warhol at the Factory in the mid sixties. Unsurprisingly then the collection draws heavily from the well marked Velvet Underground, including a cover of ‘Not A Young Man Anymore’, and successfully features both instrumental and vocal tracks. Confounding expectation, it actually works as a standalone product, transcending the inspirational visuals, and is enhanced by the inclusion of some interesting remixes from Scott Hardkiss and Sonic Boom, who brings his unmistakable ecclesiastical drone to the shimmering haze of ‘Teenage Lightning and Lonely Highways’. If you are in the demographic then this is much more than a cynical tick-box exercise, this is a match made in heaven.
