Dogs for Breakfast - Rose Lane Was Tucker's Girlfriend
The Italians aren't generally known for their metal, but that's all set to change with the release of this new EP from Dogs for Breakfast. Look past the somewhat questionable name and you'll find a brutally intense math-metal record with a hardcore ferocity and urgency to boot. Based loosely on the story of an emotionally unstable lady named Rose Lane, this is as angry as metal gets and it just doesn't let up. Off-beat time signatures, punk rock guitars and roaring vocals are used to horrifyingly brilliant effect, with the bands grasp of their instruments obvious to hear. Two tracks even feature the screeching sax of Luca T. Mai from fellow Italian experimentalists Zu, his sporadic bursts of brass just cementing the somewhat evil feel of the entire EP. If all metal bands were willing to look a little wider afield for inspiration as Dogs for Breakfast have done here, we'd be very lucky listeners indeed.
