T In The Park 2010 - Day Two - A Review In Pictures - Balado, Near Kinross
Music lovers from around the world have been flocking to Scotland's T In The Park since it's introduction in 1994. I've attended the event on numerous occasions since it's beginnings at Strathclyde Country Park, photographing the fest for the third year running in 2010 at it's current home in Balado.
My Saturday at T started at midday, with a trip to the main stage to watch Chipmunk rapping to a slightly drenched but still enthusiastic crowd! Luckily two of the acts I really wanted to view were both performing in covered arenas so I was able to take in sets from X Factor alumini Diana Vickers and US folk rocker Lissie without fear of getting a soaking!
I'd seen Diana on a couple of occasions previously, including a set at London's Indigo a week earlier. I'm a fan of her album Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree so it was nice to see her go down well with the Scottish crowd in the King Tut's arena. I watched a few songs from the audience after my three song photo pit allocation, hanging around until she picked up her trumpet for a toot through album fave "My Hip".
Lissie's set on the Futures stage was the only performance I watched in its entirety all weekend. I had already watched her performing at this year's Great Escape and Evolution festivals but this was the first time I'd seen her play since her debut album Catching A Tiger was released so it was a revelation hearing the songs live after getting to grips with the collection back home. The album is currently battling it out with The Like's forthcoming sophomore release as my album of the year and the live renditions of tracks like "When I'm Alone" and "Cuckoo" completely made my day. Throw a heart tugging "Everywhere I Go" with its soaring chorus and blistering set closer "In Sleep" into the mix and you've got a storming afternoon gig. When I caught her show at Evolution the audience sat on the ground - appreciative but not too vocal. This time round the Scot's gave it laldy, giving the US lass a real Scottish welcome!
The rest of my Saturday was very hectic, running around from stage to stage but still having fun.
