Two Door Cinema Club - Roundhouse, London
Playing as part of this years iTunes Festival held at the stunning Roundhouse venue in Camden, Two Door Cinema Club do not fail to impress the amassing throng here to see headliners Foals tonight. With their debut album rather startingly having sold close 50,000 copies worldwide and after many a well-received live show, this Northen Irish indie-pop act are really starting to make a name for themselves. Their performance tonight is probably not going to do them much harm either.
For a band of their type, they definitely benefit from having a pretty loud sound this evening. Songs like opener 'Cigarettes in the Theatre' and 'Do You Want It All?' take on a life of themselves, feeling ever more anthemic and room-filling as the night progresses. While a lot of the songs do follow the same formulaic pattern, the crowd just doesn't seem to care as they sing along to their heart's content, and while the electronic elements of some songs seem at times superfluous, tonight they give their sound a a slight edge which keeps things interesting.
They give their latest single 'Come Back Home' an airing towards the end of the set, and it's this track which lets you know why these guys have become so sucessful, so quickly: a big chorus, screeching guitars and a danceable beat. It's worked before and it'll surely work again.
