Various - Nervous Nitelife: Tom Stephan!

The London based DJ and producer delivers a mix which should appeal to fans of dirty, ravey underground electro. The emphasis is on squelchy basslines and builds rather than melody, but there are some well considered twists. A few tracks verge on minimal, while 'African Forest' centres around precisely the sort of tribal drums and chanting you'd expect from the title. It's the occasional big vocal tracks that stick out most, however. 'Lights Out', one of Stephan's own productions, features the voice of Rowetta and doesn't stray from the old-fashioned house template. 'Keep It Going Louder' (Tom Stephan Harder Mix) sounds like a girls night out floorfiller; catchy as hell and not a little cheesy, but you'll feel as if you've worked for it.
