Various - American Dreams

American Dreams is a two-disc compilation of tracks that have appeared on a huge variety of popular US TV shows. With shows spanning the likes of 90210, Glee and The Hills, you'd be forgiven for thinking the worst and that this would be a collection of bad, mawkish American teeny pop and grungy garage rock. So, it comes as something of a surprise that what we actually end up with isn't anywhere near as bad our expectations would have us believe! The worst here is the likes of 'Don't Stop Believing' by the Glee cast and, while there is an ample serving of cheese, it is accompanied by some truly good pop tracks: we have music here from Alicia Keys, Little Boots, Rufus Wainwright and Keri Hilson. With a 50/50 hit rate, there isn't too much time spent working through the duffers (Nick Lachey, Ricky Martin, Jonas Brothers) before you hit upon a decent piece of music. Of course the real issue, as with any compilation, is that you're likely to already have the tracks you like so there isn't really any value to be had in picking them up as a collection.
