The Souljazz Orchestra - Rising Sun

Post Señor Coconut, tropical rhythms, xylophone and brass interspersed with a shout of 'ha!' at occasional intervals is bound to arouse suspicion of gentle piss-taking. Yet this is a big part of the sound of Rising Sun, The Souljazz Orchestra's third album. Not to worry, for anyone who's ever fantasised about lounging around on a sun-kissed island, sipping cocktails is bound to get caught up in the infectiously uplifting vibe here, even when it does have an air of kitsch. A smattering of mellower jazz tracks are enough to convince that, yes, these guys are serious and round off the album nicely.
