Lloyd Miller & The Heliocentrics

Having last worked with ‘the father of Ethio-jazz’ Mulatu Astatke, forward-thinking UK jazz collective The Heliocentrics here team up with Lloyd Miller, a veteran multi-instrumentalist jazz player with an interest in Middle Eastern and Oriental music. Tracks vary between unadulterated western jazz ('Nava', for example) and those coloured by Miller’s ethnic obsessions. There are deviations in 'Salendro' and 'Sunda Sunset', two contemplative, near spiritual pieces, and 'Lloyd Lets Loose', on which he delivers an intriguing stream of consciousness spoken lyric against a background of clatter. Fans of experimental jazz should find plenty to tickle their minds.
