Hilltop Hoods - State of the Art

Those unwilling to give Australian hip-hop a chance may want to consider that the idea of a thriving UK hip-hop scene was once sneered at. State Of The Art is Hilltop Hoods’ fifth album and follows the critical and commercial success in their homeland of The Hard Road. Indeed, state of the art isn’t a bad description, if you consider state of the art in hip-hop terms to mean Eminem. The mid-angry delivery is reminiscent of the world’s biggest white rapper, the trio dropping a decent quota of f-bombs with no betrayal of an Aussie accent. Hilltop Hoods sound 'street' enough while not skimping on the hooky backing tracks: 'Last Confession' has that 'Ike’s Rap II' vibe; 'The Light You Burned' utilises an earworm of a Giant Crab sample. A few airings in the right places and they could catch on here. Paging Westwood.
