fun. - Aim & Ignite

The debut album from this New York based three-piece is a heavily orchestrated, multi layered throwback to an era of gloriously upbeat pop music not seen for many a long year. Opener, ‘Be Calm’, makes use of so many instruments that you are left wondering if that really was a kitchen sink thrown in for good measure. This kind of extravagant arrangement could be seen as far too indulgent but the underlying strength of the songs on Aim & Ignite leave you with the distinct feeling that they would sound just as good if played by just a bloke and an acoustic guitar or piano. It is nice to hear an album that, for once, defies the standard logic of a modern pop record by throwing in countless different styles and arrangements to such wonderful and, yes, fun effect. fun. by name fun. by nature.
