First Aid Kit - Stay Gold

Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit return after the triumph of 2012's The Lion's Roar, which saw them go from obscure indie act to international sensations. Recorded in Omaha, Stay Gold comes with the sheen their new - major - label offers, and should do much to further their ever burgeoning success.

They build upon the foundations of earlier work, echoing the home-spun, Americana-feel in the vein of last album highlight 'Emmylou'. Loneliness, heartbreak, homesickness: these are the themes addressed via the luscious vocal harmonies and elegant arrangements - bolstered this time by strings and piano. The dreamy, sepia-hued 'My Silver Lining' flicks past like an old home movie, while the exquisite sadness of 'Cedar Lane' and endearing 'Waitress Song' (in which the protagonist envisions a different, simpler life for herself as a waitress) shine brightly. Rounding things off is the lively panache of 'Heaven Knows'. Their most mature and emotionally satisfying work to date, Stay Gold sees First Aid Kit well within sight of a podium finish.
