Virgin Media locks up Tivo network access.

Over the last week Virgin Media have been beta testing a new firmware version for their Tivo platform. Unfortunately unlike last Novembers update that added lots of useful UI and performance enhancements, this update will stop all none official network Tivo apps from working.

This includes the incredibly popular US iOS and Android buddy app as well as all manner of 3rd party applications that are currently available in the App store and Android Market place.

When a number of posters complained that network apps had stopped working on the official Virgin Support forum the Forum Manager made the following statement to clarify the situation:

“In addition to a number of fixes after this software release a number of unsupported apps will cease to work as these apps create stability risks to our TV platform.
We know you're interested in using this sort of companion app so we're hard at work adding new features to our forthcoming TiVo Buddy app which we'll be launching later this year.”

It is expected that firmware version 15.2-01-2-C00 will be rolled out from 31st January across the country.
