Microsoft reinvents webmail with Outlook.com

Microsoft today launched their new webmail offering, Outlook.com.

Hotmail has had a bit of a poor reputation in recent years for being slow and having a frankly crap interface and lost ground to other services such as Gmail.

You can sign in just now by going to Outlook.com and user your existing hotmail.com or .co.uk account or alternatively you can register a new address with the @outlook.com domain. As its just gone live this morning, if you're quick you have a chance of getting your real name or preferred email address.

First impressions are its actually quite good, it looks a bit similar to the mail client from Windows 8 which is no bad thing. Its clear, uncluttered and has lots of functionality. If you didn't like the new interface for Gmail and would like less advertising stuffed down your throat, its worth a look.

We need your help

Running a website like The Digital Fix - especially one with over 20 years of content and an active community - costs lots of money and we need your help. As advertising income for independent sites continues to contract we are looking at other ways of supporting the site hosting and paying for content.

You can help us by using the links on The Digital Fix to buy your films, games and music and we ask that you try to avoid blocking our ads if you can. You can also help directly for just a few pennies per day via our Patreon - and you can even pay to have ads removed from the site entirely.
