Amazon preparing 9-inch Kindle Fire for mid-2012 launch
Amazon is preparing to launch a new 9-inch Kindle Fire in mid-2012, along with a refreshed 7-inch version according to reports.
Analyst Chad Bartley, of Pacific Crest, has this week increased his 2012 Kindle Fire sales estimates, claiming that the online retailer is preparing new models for launch this year:
"We are raising our 2012 sales forecasts to 14.9 million from 12.7 million," he wrote in a note to investors.
"But we believe there is an upward bias, particularly from the new 7 and 9-inch models, which we expect to launch in mid-2012."
The Android powered Kindle Fire would go head-to-head with the new Apple iPad 3, which is expected to be unveiled in early March.
Interestingly, Bartley also estimated a reduction in sales of the Kindle e-reader, revising the previous estimate of 28.6 million down to 24 million. He didn't give a reason for this, but it's possible that it's down to the Kindle Fire taking the demand away from it's popular e-readers.
