Amazon launches Android app store

Amazon has just launched it's Android app store in the UK, which could suggest that an Android based Kindle device (possibly even the Kindle Fire 2) might be on it's way to UK shores sooner than previously expected.

We won't find out for sure until Amazon's eagerly-awaited product announcement next week, but hopefully this time Amazon's UK consumers won't be left out in the cold.

UK customers who want to download the Amazon app store will need an Amazon account and will need to enable their Android devices to allow the installation of non-market apps.

We've not had a lot of time to play around with the new app store to see if it offers anything different from Google Play, but considering that Amazon are offering customers a free paid app on their store everyday, it could be worth taking a look!

We need your help

Running a website like The Digital Fix - especially one with over 20 years of content and an active community - costs lots of money and we need your help. As advertising income for independent sites continues to contract we are looking at other ways of supporting the site hosting and paying for content.

You can help us by using the links on The Digital Fix to buy your films, games and music and we ask that you try to avoid blocking our ads if you can. You can also help directly for just a few pennies per day via our Patreon - and you can even pay to have ads removed from the site entirely.
