Google make a pudding of themselves as they drop their dessert-based naming convention for Android

Oh Google. Why?

In a world where tech takes itself far too seriously, your dessert-based names always brought about some fun as we all tried to guess what would be next and how you'd present it with your little Androidy mascot.

Was it just that Q was too hard a letter to come up with a suitable sweet for? Queen of Puddings would have done nicely - although to be fair, it feels a little as though you were coasting when the previous version was just called 'Pie'.

So, the seventeenth edition of Android to be released into the wild is now going to be called Android 10. Wait? What? 10? That's a bigger jump than Microsoft managed between Windows 8 and 10.

We need your help

Running a website like The Digital Fix - especially one with over 20 years of content and an active community - costs lots of money and we need your help. As advertising income for independent sites continues to contract we are looking at other ways of supporting the site hosting and paying for content.

You can help us by using the links on The Digital Fix to buy your films, games and music and we ask that you try to avoid blocking our ads if you can. You can also help directly for just a few pennies per day via our Patreon - and you can even pay to have ads removed from the site entirely.
