Is it time to hear Mags' story? Suzanne Collins may think so - a new Hunger Games prequel is coming in May 2020
Suzanne Collins is to give us a glimpse into Panem's past in a prequel to her Hunger Games trilogy set 64 years before the events of the original books. The prequel, which is due for release on 19th May 2020, will go back to a time that followed the failed rebellion in Panem - the so called Dark Days.
Now, we know a bit about the timelines that lead up to the Hunger Games including having a good idea of who won most of them. And 64 years before the time of Katniss Everdeen the winner was Mags.
As the oldest surviving winner at the time of the original trilogy, Mags would have been around 16 years old at the time that this prequel will be set.
Of the book Collins says “With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival. The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days — as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet — provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”
“Suzanne Collins is a master at combining brilliant storytelling, superb world building, breathtaking suspense, and social commentary,” Scholastic Trade Publishing President Ellie Berger said in a statement. “We are absolutely thrilled — as both readers and publishers — to introduce the devoted fans of the series and a new audience to an entirely new perspective on this modern classic.”
The original trilogy was translated to film by Lionsgate and we think that this prequel will be a safe bet for them if they wish to adapt Panem's history to the big screen...
