Margaret Atwood is working on a sequel to The Handmaid's Tale - The Testaments
Margaret Atwood has announced she is working on a sequel to The Handmaids Tale which will pick up the story fifteen years after Offred's last appearance. Narrated by three female characters the new 'The Testaments' will pick up the story of the Gilead with Atwood claiming that her inspiration partly comes from "the world we've been living in".
Yes indeed to those who asked: I’m writing a sequel to The #HandmaidsTale. #TheTestaments is set 15 years after Offred’s final scene and is narrated by three female characters. It will be published in Sept 2019. More details: https://t.co/e1umh5FwpX pic.twitter.com/pePp0zpuif— Margaret E. Atwood (@MargaretAtwood) November 28, 2018
Offred’s final scene saw her about to be driven off to an uncertain future – one either of freedom, more torture and imprisonment, or even death. We just don’t know.
The Testaments is scheduled for publication worldwide on 10th September.
