"Holly Willoughby is technically quite hard" Idle chit-chat with Luke Kempner

Hey Luke, how the devil are you?

I’m really jolly well.

What have you been up to today?

Well it’s 6:05am. I haven’t done anything yet apart from go through Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. I completed a full 7 cycles.

Describe your comedy style.

It’s energetic, multi-charactered and friendly.

Tell us what you can about your show for the Fringe, 'House of Faces', in two sentences?

It’s about my obsession with TV and how I can never switch off.

It features the most amount of impressions I’ve ever had in a show including a sketch where Prince Harry and Liam Gallagher run a marathon.

How many times have you been to the fringe, and what’s your best memory?

I have been four times as a comedian. Once as a musical theatre performer in 2008. My best memory during was in that year, I played darts with Jim Bowen at his 80th birthday.

Very cool! What do you do when you’re there? (Other than your shows obvs.)

I live with my mother-in-law. It’s a testing month for both of us

You’ve quite the array of voices, what’s your absolute best?

My best is my mum’s friend Paul. Celebrity-wise it’s Andy Murray.

And which one do you need to work on a bit?

Graham Norton. The laugh is 100% accurate so that’s a start.

Is there a voice that’s technically harder than the rest?

Holly Willoughby is technically quite hard, I have solved this by just burping every time she’s asked a question. Problem solved!

My girlfriend is obsessed with Queer Eye, as is Cariad Lloyd who I just did an interview with, are you?

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS. I have routine about Queer Eye in my new show. LOVE.

Explain the French tuck.

Tucking the shirt in at the front. TAN, IT LOOKS AWFUL. STOP IT

You’ve done a few TV shows, which has been the most enjoyable so far?

Working with my good pal Tom Davis on Murder In Successville will always be a highlight and Big Brother’s Bit On The Side is like a family to me.

And what would be your dream job on the box?

To be in the Downton Abbey movie and work downstairs and get scolded by Mr Carson for doing impressions of the upstairs.

You’re on Twitter a fair amount, but the question is, social media… bringing people closer together or destroying civilisation?

Hmmmm, I LOVE twitter. It really connects you with people you wouldn’t always connect with. Unfortunately, it connects you with some not so friendly people too. Social media has it’s flaws but it’s definitely enhanced our lives

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve gigged?

Lots of corners of pubs with no-one listening, someone’s garden whilst everyone was sat inside, weirdest gig ever was Henley Festival when I started halfway through Lionel Ritchie who was on the main stage. He had started late. Then his set finished with a firework display. My set finished with me running off stage crying.

What other comedian is worth checking out?

My sister Sooz Kempner and Steve Bugeja

What’s the question we should have asked you today but haven’t?

What does Rylan Clark Neal smell like? (Very nice)

Finally, how do you take your coffee?

OUT OF MY NEW COFFEE MACHINE!!! It’s so sexy. I watch videos about it when my wife is out. Mmmm.
