Is LEGO Doctor Who on the way?

More on Doctor Who

With successful ranges including Star Wars, DC/Marvel Super Heroes and Lord of the Rings, you'd be forgiven for wondering why there are no Doctor Who LEGO sets on the shelves.

I can hear you cry, “What about Character Building?”, but lets be honest, as nice as Character Options range of LEGO-like products are, they’re not Lego really.

However, a recent post on the LEGO Cussoo site indicates Doctor Who sets might just be a future possibility. The LEGO Cuusoo program allows users to submit their own LEGO creations for possible consideration to go into production. Sets such as the Back to the Future Delorean and Minecraft sets were produced through this system, with a recent Sherlock proposal generating a lot of buzz.

Previously, any Doctor Who proposals have remained firmly on the drawing board due to licensing issues, but with the below text appearing on the Cuusoo site, the potential for Doctor Who sets is suddenly a distinct possibility:

If your project was previously turned down, archived, or deleted due to a licensing conflict that is now resolved, you may re-submit it as a new project. Supporters from past projects cannot be applied to a future project.
Resolved Past Licensing Conflicts

We now welcome projects based on the following licenses that used to have conflicts:
• Doctor Who - February 2014

The possibilities this presents are mind-boggling, classic and new sets and wave after wave of mini-figures are definitely options and surely the potential for a LEGO videogame is ripe (could that be the videogame that is finally a success for the series?).

Perhaps most importantly this is further evidence of Doctor Who’s global impact, and potentially puts it on a similar level as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

But for the moment, no-one is promising anything, yet this is an exciting and creative step from the giant of the construction brick. We can’t wait to see what excited Doctor Who fans can dream up and will keep our voting fingers hovering over the Cuusoo site.
