The web goes on strike!
On January 24th 2012 US Congress will vote on whether or not to pass the internet censorship bill known as PIPA in the Senate and SOPA in the House. Criticism has been directed at the bill amid claims that it will end free speech and privacy on the internet.
Some of the most used websites in the world, Wikipedia, Reddit,Wired and many more have been blacked out or censored as part of a protest against the proposed SOPA and PIPA legislation.
Wikipedia has a placeholder asking readers to imagine a world without free knowledge and is preventing access to any of the English language wikipedia pages and Wired.com has put censorship bars over all of their content although you can choose to stop displaying these.
Fortunately the blackout ends at 8PM Central Time (US) tonight so all the kids can get back to copying their homework from Wikipedia.
