Although Nic Pizzolatto, who served as showrunner for the first three seasons of the thriller series, will not be the showrunner of season 4, he will retain an executive producer credit. Meanwhile, Issa López is stepping up as showrunner and will also direct a number of episodes. We don’t know the True Detective season 4 release date, but HBO has announced it will premiere at some point in 2023.
Because production on True Detective season 4 only started in November 2022, it might be a while until the series drops on HBO, and we predict it will be late 2023 when the show arrives.

There is not an official True Detective season 4 trailer yet, but HBO did drop a trailer for all of its shows for 2023 which features a good look at True Detective.
It will be a while before we get a dedicated trailer for True Detective season 4, though, but we’ll share that as soon as it lands.
True Detective season 4 plot
The True Detective season 4 plot will see two detectives unravelling the mystery of a mass disappearance in Alaska. In this case, the detectives are Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis).
The official plot synopsis for the series, as provided by HBO, is as follows: “When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro must confront their pasts and the dark truths lying underneath the Arctic ice.”
