Cel-shaded FPS XIII is getting a remake, coming this November

Surprising everyone, Microids and PlayMagic announced today that cult classic cel-shaded shooter, XIII, is getting the remake treatment for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC/Mac. XIII will release on November 13th. Clever.

Check out the lovely cinematic teaser trailer below.

Announcing the news on the PlayStation Blog, Head of Production at Microids, François Coulon, explained why they are remaking the cult classic first-person shooter:

“This remake’s idea came naturally as we felt this unique kind of story driven FPS experience was missing in today’s gaming landscape. Our goal is to bring XIII’s compelling story to a new generation of players with the best possible graphics and animation. The result will be nothing short of spectacular as we promise to celebrate the amazing work done on the original game. Stay tuned for more details… “

“The PlayMagic team is very excited for the opportunity to remake a true classic; modernizing the graphics, sound and animations while remaining faithful to the original XIII’s incredible look and feel. XIII’s gameplay mechanics are being reworked in an effort to modernize the experience in a way that encompasses the original spirit of the game”, Giuseppe Crugliano, CEO & Creative Director at PlayMagic said.

Bring cel-shaded games back for good, I say. This is the 2003 original, obviously.

The remake has been confirmed by publisher Microids to be releasing on all current-gen consoles, and PC and Mac

November 13th can’t come soon enough.
