The War of The Worlds reaches PSN and XBLA

Platforms: Sony PlayStation 3 | Microsoft Xbox 360

Other Ocean Interactive will release The War of the Worlds on PSN and XBLA before the end of this year.

The game is a "2D cinematic platformer" inspired of course by H. G. Wells' novel of the same name and the 1953 film adaptation (not the Spielberg / Cruise film from a few years back!). Players will find themselves in control of a survivor of the invasion, a character alone, trying to escape the hell of 1950s London surrounded by alien attackers.

Despite the source material the developers are "introducing a new story arc, characters, locations and sub-plots."

Excitingly Patrick Stewart of Star Trek: The Next Generation and X-Men will be providing voice-over duties. The man himself grew up watching the 1953 film over and over again so is more than happy to be helping out on this new production.

The War of the Worlds is described by the the developers as a "dark and breathtaking adventure...paying homage to...Flashback and Out of This World."
