The Jak and Daxter Trilogy

Platforms: Sony PlayStation 3

This month marks the 10th anniversary of the first Jak and Daxter game released for the Playstation 2 back in December 2001. In February next year The Jak and Daxter Trilogy will be released exclusively for the Playstation 3 and will include Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (2001), Jak II: Renegade (2003) and Jak 3 (2004).

The series was developed by Naughty Dog the talented developers who have brought the highly acclaimed Uncharted series to the Playstation 3. Naughty Dog are working closely with Mass Media who are handling the remastering process. The games will be in High Definition 720p offering crisper visuals, smoother animations, with stereoscopic 3D support and each game will have a complete range of trophies to earn.

The series has many loyal fans and it has even earned 7 entries in the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008 including the first completely seamless 3D world in a console game. The series is often pigeon holed into the platforming genre which fits the first game quite well, but Jak II and Jak 3 are far more than just platform games - they incorporate guns, vehicles and a huge open world filled with varied story based missions. The same level of polish and attention to detail that can be seen in the Uncharted games is also present throughout the Jak and Daxter series and the release of this collection should introduce more players to these classics as well as please long time fans.

The UK release date has not yet been confirmed but according to the US Playstation Blog the collection is set to be released in North America on February 7th, which would point to a February 10th release date in Europe. Look out for a full review of The Jak and Daxter Trilogy on The Digital Fix in February.
