Take local multiplayer online with Steam's newest feature

Steam will now let you play your favourite local multiplayer game with a friend over the internet thanks to the addition of the new 'Remote Play Together' functionality.

It'll give a whole new life to split screen gaming and doesn't require everyone to have access to the title you want to play. The host player can allow their friends to connect to their local game and play it over the internet in any existing split-screen mode. Steam say that all split screen and local co-op games will be compatible with the new functionality.

Remote Play Together will be added to beta versions of the Steam client from 21st October and will be released to everyone at an unspecified date in the future.

We need your help

Running a website like The Digital Fix - especially one with over 20 years of content and an active community - costs lots of money and we need your help. As advertising income for independent sites continues to contract we are looking at other ways of supporting the site hosting and paying for content.

You can help us by using the links on The Digital Fix to buy your films, games and music and we ask that you try to avoid blocking our ads if you can. You can also help directly for just a few pennies per day via our Patreon - and you can even pay to have ads removed from the site entirely.
