Steam in legal hot water

Platforms: Android

Valve’s market-changing Steam software, arguably the first and last word in the digital distribution market, may soon be taken to court by the Federation of German Consumer Organisations over its terms of service, MCV reported earlier this week.
Of course this touches on the riveting legal issue (honestly!) of what happens when you buy a digital version of a game, as opposed to actually buying something tangible from a shop. Who really “owns” the software has been a thorny topic for some time now, as Microsoft so recently learned… Do you care about this? Or is it worth exchanging a few rights for the convenience of delivery (and let's not forget that Summer Sale)?

We need your help

Running a website like The Digital Fix - especially one with over 20 years of content and an active community - costs lots of money and we need your help. As advertising income for independent sites continues to contract we are looking at other ways of supporting the site hosting and paying for content.

You can help us by using the links on The Digital Fix to buy your films, games and music and we ask that you try to avoid blocking our ads if you can. You can also help directly for just a few pennies per day via our Patreon - and you can even pay to have ads removed from the site entirely.
