Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order gets first story trailer, release date announced

Respawn's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order received its first story trailer today at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, along with a release date of November 15th 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

The trailer doesn't feature gameplay, but everything in the trailer is being rendered in-game in Unreal Engine 4. Crucially, EA's much maligned Frostbite Engine is not being used for what is now EA's biggest release of 2019.

Take a look at the trailer below.

You play as a Jedi called Cal Kestis, played by Cameron Monaghan. Cal is a Jedi on the run, primarily from the Inquisitors who hunt Jedi following Order 66 in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Cal must complete his training before the Inquisitors discover his plan to rebuild the Jedi Order.

Cal is also getting his very own cute droid companion called BD-1.

BD-1 is unsurprisingly adorable.

Cal's lightsaber will be upgradable throughout the game, no information on what kind of upgrades would be available were given though.

"This is a Jedi fantasy story game. This is about being a Jedi", emphasised Vince Zampella, who seemed quite emotional to be revealing the game.

Zampella also spoke of the game's melee-based combat, saying "combat is key" and that combat is easy to pick up but with depth to master. Inside Respawn they call it "thoughtful combat".

Zampella once again reinforced that there is "no multiplayer, no microtransactions" during the panel. This is strictly a single-player, story based game.

Below is the full Day 2 of Star Wars Celebration, including the discussion about the game for your viewing pleasure, with Respawn developers and Cameron Monaghan. The Fallen Order panel begins around 2 hours and 40 minutes in.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15th 2019.

Now, can we see some pretty gameplay please?
