Retro gamers will appreciate just how big an impact The Bitmap Brothers made on the 16 bit gaming scene. With titles such as Xenon and its sequel, Gods, The Chaos Engine and the Speedball games, the studio was responsible for many gamers of a certain age spending more time than was healthy at their Amigas and STs!
Today, it has been announced that Rebellion have picked up the rights to the brand and the studio’s back catalogue. What this mean for remasters of existing games and possible sequels is anyone’s guess but a modern take on Speedball or Xenon is sure to be a huge seller.
“We’re delighted with the addition of The Bitmap Brothers to the ever-growing Rebellion portfolio,” said Rebellion CEO and Co-founder Jason Kingsley OBE. “The Bitmap Brothers are renowned for making great games and for bringing gaming into the mainstream with inimitable style. We’ve known Mike Montgomery for many years, and we’re honoured by the faith and trust that he has shown in us by passing on the torch. We’ll strive to be vigilant custodians of one of gaming’s great names.”
