Sony launch their PlayStation 5 site - could the full announcement be imminent?

It would appear that Sony are gearing up to announce the PlayStation 5 if the appearance their dedicated PlayStation 5 section of their website is anything to go on. The page was spotted by RyderrexTheOriginal over on Reddit.

There have been rumours for a while that the next generation console specifications would be announced in February so this new development would certainly be inline with that. The page allows you to sign up your email address to be informed when more information is available.

The statement on the official page reads "We've begun to share some of the incredible features you can expect from PlayStation 5, but we're not quite ready to fully unveil the next generation of PlayStation" - at first look it would sound as though the announcement itself might be a while off and but it could well be a bluff.

The PlayStation 5 is launching this Christmas as is Microsoft's Xbox Series X. While we have some idea of the specifications of the latter, the PlayStation 5 details are far harder to come by. Some analysts are suggesting there might be two Xbox consoles released at the end of this year - and that the PlayStation 5 specs would place it somewhere between the cheaper 'Lockhart' Xbox and the premium 'Anaconda' version of Microsoft's console.

Sony are currently playing something of a waiting game when it comes to deciding the price of the PlayStation 5 - in an earnings call the Japanese giant was coy about discussing price as they're waiting to see where the Xbox sits. Sony's CFO, Hiroki Totoki said "because we are competing in the space ... it’s very difficult to discuss anything about the price at this point of time, and depending upon the price level, we may have to determine the promotion that we are going to deploy and how much costs we are prepared to pay.”

We're expecting the news to come thick and fast as soon as Sony open the floodgates, but until then we'll be keeping our eyes and ears firmly trained on the company to ensure that any sign of an announcement is covered on the site.
