Minecraft Super Duper Graphics Pack to cease developmentPlatforms: All
Mojang has announced that the much-anticipated Minecraft Super Duper Graphics Pack, announced two years ago at Microsoft's E3 2017 press conference, will cease development.
The reason for the cancellation, according to Mojang's press release, was that "the pack proved too technically demanding to implement as planned". The studio said the pack wasn't performing as desired across devices. Mojang has always prided itself on Minecraft working almost identically across all platforms, so their vision for the pack could have become compromised if the Graphics Pack wasn't running correctly on Nintendo Switch, or mobile for example.
The Super Duper Graphics Pack was set to improve the classic Minecraft visuals, while still retaining the blocky aesthetic.
Mojang confirm that they are still looking into ways of bringing a new look to Minecraft.
Alongside the cancellation announcement, Mojang teased that they will "be able to share more on that subject very soon", regarding how they make the most of the technical architecture of each platform. Your guess on what this means is as good as ours.
