Media Molecule announce April release date for Dreams Early AccessPlatforms: Sony PlayStation 4 | Sony PlayStation 5
Media Molecule has announced that PlayStation 4 exclusive Dreams will be releasing in paid early access on April 16th.
The long-awaited early access release date was revealed today on the PlayStation Blog. Alongside the date reveal, the Little Big Planet developers shared what players would be able to access on the 16th April. Players/creators/artists will have access to the full set of Dreams creation tools that will them to create entire games, art, music, videos, essentially anything that can be imagined can be created within this powerful game engine.
While the creation tools form the bulk of Dreams and the early access release, creators will also get access to "interactive tutorials and arcade games, templates and additional content created by Media Molecule".
Dreams Early Access owners will also be the first to get hands-on time with new features and content as and when the developer adds them to the game.
One thing that definitely won't be included in Dreams Early Access is the story mode that Media Molecule have built entirely inside Dreams. The story mode is being saved for the full release.
In the UK, Dreams Early Access will cost £24.99, and will be available for purchase on the PlayStation Store on the 16th April.
You may be wondering if your £24.99 for Dreams Early Access will give you the full version of Dreams upon release. Media Molecule's answer to that is yes...? The PlayStation Blog post is a little cagey when answering that question, saying, "Early Access is intended for Creators who will participate and contribute to Dreams Early Access, and in return, will have the full version of Dreams upon release". This answer gives the impression that Dreams Early Access owners may have to create and possibly upload a creation in order to eventually get access to the full game.
Early Access creations will roll over into the full version of Dreams, so you don't have to worry about losing all of those homages to your pets that you will inevitably create.
The Creator Beta back in January had an NDA attached to your creations, in Dreams Early Access however, you "can stream, share and create to your hearts content".
One last thing to note is that Dreams Early Access will be limited to a certain number of players, though Media Molecule say "it's a big limit".
See you on April 16th, creators! The Digital Fix will be keeping an eye on all things Dreams, and all of the dog-based music videos you create there too.
