Lord of the Rings: War in the North set for November release.

Platforms: Sony PlayStation 3 | Microsoft Xbox 360 | PC

November 2011 will see the release of Snowblind Studio’s The Lord of the Rings:War in the North across PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The game will see you assuming the role of one of the usual Tolkien trinity, human, dwarf or elf, as you work towards defeating the forces of Sauron. Interestingly this will be a three player co-op action RPG which could set it apart from the pack and is currently sitting with an 18 rated certificate so we could be seeing a level of maturity and grit missing from other Lord of the Rings games. With The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim also due in November it might be the right step to take a risk and think bigger for the Washington based developer.

War in the North will also please fans as it ties into the Tolkien canon and will run parallel to the ring-bearers quest giving the player a sense of involvement in the bigger picture of the Tolkien universe. There has also been a collector’s edition announced and it will include the usual DLC but comes with the added incentive of behind the scenes footage of the development and also a ‘specially crafted art book.’ One can also only hope for some bonus footage of the Hobbit, although that may just be wishful thinking.

With the release of War in the North in November and The Hobbit media train building momentum it looks like we are far from done with Middle Earth and its inhabitants.
