Codemasters announce GRID return, coming September

Codemasters has announced a new entry in racing game series, GRID. The fourth entry in the series, simply named GRID, will release on September 13th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

GRID has not been seen since the release of GRID Autosport in 2014, so its return this year is somewhat of a surprise. Be sure to check out the excellent debut trailer for the game below, courtesy of IGN.

This years entry will feature four continents letting you race on "some of the world’s most famous city streets and race circuits". Car classes include GT, Stock, Touring, Muscle, Super-Modified, and more. Race types include Circuit, Street Racing, Ovals, Hot Laps, Point-to-Point and World Time Attack.

Former racing World Champion, Fernando Alonso, has signed on as a Race Consultant and will appear in-game. Codemasters say players will face off against some of Alonso's Esports team 'FA Racing', before eventually competing against the racing legend himself in his Renault R26 F1 car.

Chris Smith, GRID Game Director at Codemasters said on the announcement:

GRID as a racing franchise is revered by our community and we are delighted to bring it to the current generation of consoles.

The game offers so much variety and depth, from the number of modern and classic cars through to the locations and race options. Renowned for its handling, the game will appeal to all types of player, from casual drivers who want a lean-in challenge, to sim drivers who want some serious fun.

We are also delighted to work alongside Fernando Alonso who is arguably one of the world’s greatest ever drivers. His experience and knowledge has enabled us to make improvements to both the performance and handling of our cars. We could not be more proud to have signed him both in-game and as a Race Consultant. We can’t wait for our players to experience the final version when it comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC this September.”
