Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the title of this year's Call of Duty, reveal expected on May 30th

The 2019 entry in the Call of Duty franchise is titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, according to various sources. An official reveal is expected on Thursday, May 30th.

Yes, Infinity Ward appear to be rebooting the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series by going back to basics, and back to an old name. The news was first announced by LongSensation on Twitter, this was subsequently corroborated by Kotaku's Jason Schreier and Eurogamer, based on what they had heard from their own sources.

Kotaku say the game is a "soft-reboot" of the first Modern Warfare, and will "be heavy on troubling, realistic emotions".

We've known that 2019's Call of Duty was going to be a Modern Warfare game for a long time now, but most assumed it would, as the fourth entry in the series, be titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

The title is bizarre, considering the original Modern Warfare was titled Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and was subsequently remastered in 2016 as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. What on earth will the potential 2029 remaster of 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare be titled?

Eurogamer are anticipating that the official reveal will come next week on May 30th.

While Infinity Ward gear up for Modern Warfare, Treyarch have just been placed as lead developers on Call of Duty 2020 amid reports of tension between Raven and Sledgehammer.
