PSVR Monthly - December

Happy Christmas everyone. I do hope a lot of budding gamers had a brand new PSVR headset wrapped up under their Christmas tree. There are some amazing deals out there at the moment and with a massive amount of games and experiences to be had, there is no better time to jump into PlayStation VR.

This time of year is always quiet for new releases and news but there have been bits and bobs to keep us all busy over the Christmas period. Multiple titles have had updates, a few new games have been announced, we have a few new games to look at and a few surprize games were released last month. Lets dive in then shall we?

News

First off, we have had a release date trailer for the very promising looking Shadow Legend VR. The trailer is included below for your perusal. It really looks like a deep, immersive RPG and I for one, cannot wait to dive in. It releases on the 20th of January next year.

We had a fair few games release in December that we did not know much about last month. Firstly, we mentioned it briefly last month, Shuttle Commander was released in the US on the 11th of December. We have not had an EU release yet, so stay tuned for that.

We had other titles and experiences released in December, titles such as Mini Motor Racing X, ArtPulse, Dinosaur Island VR, Homestar VR Planetarium and Fujii. These were mostly stealth releases and hopefully, we can share reviews for them with you in the future. Otherwise, look them up and see if anything takes your fancy. I have, however, heard on the grapevine that Mini Motor Racing X is a lot of fun.

We had a PlayStation State of Play presentation this month but, as expected, the PSVR news was very thin on the ground. I think this presentation wanted to focus on some of the major PS4 releases coming up. However, we did get another look at the VR title Paper Beast. It really looks like a unique VR experience and I am certainly keeping my eye on this one. A gameplay trailer has been added below.

Half-Life: Alyx, the flagship VR title from Valve may appear on PSVR in the future. Valve has not ruled out a PSVR version and given many fans hope of seeing it appear on the PlayStation at some point. After 12 long years hopefully, a new Half-Life game can give the medium a boost.

Everyone's favourite Jedi-Rhythm game mashup Beat Saber has had a lot of additions in recent weeks. New tracks from Green Day have been added and include - American Idiot, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Father of All…, Fire, Ready, Aim, Holiday and Minority. A massive update to give players 90-degree levels to complete has also been added. This new update gives you 28 lanes of blocks to slash and I cannot wait to jump in and try these new features.

Blood and Truth also had its final update this month adding, amongst other things, rhythm-action challenges. This looks to be the best and wildest update to date and certainly adds something new to the ever-popular action title. The DJ scene from the game's campaign has also been expanded on for players to mess about with. Get in there and cause some chaos.

There is a massive New Years sale on the PlayStation Store at the moment and it includes a lot of PSVR games. So if you are a new player getting their headset at Christmas, or a veteran looking to try some new games. Have a look, you might find a bargain or three. There are over a thousand games on offer so everyone should be able to find something to play over the Christmas period. (Pssst, Blood and Truth is only £12.49 with PS Plus, buy it if you have not already, it's ace!)

The Digital Fix PSVR Reviews

We only had one review on The Digital Fix last month. Ski Jumping VR, which I reviewed myself and I rather enjoyed it. Give it a read if you think you may enjoy it. I said -

I do not think for one minute that this is a game for everyone. However, if you have a aptitude for learning a technique and like winter sport simulations then this game could be for you. After a steep early learning curve I really started to enjoy it, it works well and has a simple yet addictive gameplay loop. Maybe I will see you on the slopes.

Upcoming PSVR Releases

Shadow Legend VR - January the 20th. As shown earlier in the feature, this promising-looking RPG releases next month and looks an absolute VR stunner. I can't wait for this one and hopefully, we will have a review for you to follow in January.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - January the 23rd. From the game's Steam page - Saints & Sinners is a game unlike any other in The Walking Dead universe. Every challenge you face and decision you make is driven by YOU. Fight the undead, scavenge through the flooded ruins of New Orleans, and face gut-wrenching choices for you and the other survivors. Live The Walking Dead's dark drama in your own skin.

Well, that is about it for the Christmas PSVR update. Have a good break, enjoy your new Christmas toys and don't drink too much. I have had a great year gaming on PlayStations VR headset and I hope you all have too. See you all next year, where who knows what is in store for the PlayStation and PlayStation VR.
