If one thing is certain today, it is that Nintendo really don't play by anyone else's rules. While it has always been true, the Direct Mini today was announced just before it started and has brought with it a slew of ports, remasters and a couple of new announcements too.
The World Ends With You Remixed is coming to Switch. Originally a DS game with an interesting dual screen battle system and stuffed with Japanese culture, the game is well loved by it's fans and it will be out this year.
Pokken Tournament DX is getting a couple of waves of new characters as DLC. The Wii U port has a much larger audience on the Switch thanks to the systems success and seeing Aegislash and Blastoise in action will be a great addition to the games roster of playable characters. We will also be getting four new support Pokemon too.
Kirby Star Allies will be out on March 16th and will include brand new abilities for the series as well multiplayer co op and plenty more of the Kirby we all know and love.
Hyrule Warriors Defininive Edition is coming out at some point in Spring this year and will include all of the content of the Wii U game and the 3DS version as well as new outifts for Link and Zelda based on Breath of the Wild. It will also feature on the go multiplayer which will be a great addition to the console.
Mario Tennis Aces has been announced and will bringing a story mode for the first time since the Game Boy Advance instalment of the series. Here is hoping they took some notes from Golf Story.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA will be hack and slashing it's way onto the console at some point in the summer. The game released in September in the EU last year on PS4 and Vita but will no doubt have a great reception on Nintendo's hybrid console.
Super Mario Odyssey is getting a new update which brings Luigi's Balloon World to the game if you have completed it. You get to either hide the balloons or find them and get to run up the leaderboard as a result. We are also getting some new outfits and filters for the picture mode and it is all coming out in February.
SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy brings another fast paced fighting game to the console which will sit well alongside games like Street Fighter and some of the ACA titles. It will be out in the Summer.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is getting a brand new character in the form of the Banana Boomerang wielding Donkey Kong. DK will be swinging in to the fantastic strategy game in the Spring.
Payday 2 is coming to the Switch and even bringing a new character to the heist game as a timed exclusive on February 27th. Along with online multiplayer the game will also have local multiplayer.
Fe is coming and bringing with it a beautiful sound and a good use of the HD rumble and is coming to the Switch on February 16th. The game looks stunning and is hotly anticipated by many who have seen it.
Celeste is also coming along to the Switch. From the makers of Towerfall Ascension the game promises to have the same fantastic twitch gameplay along a single player story and is releasing on January 25th.
Another port in the form of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is coming along from the Wii U. You also get Funky Kong who has an easier time of the game which looks like a great addition for parents playing with their kids or anyone else who isn't used to the platformer.
Finally, Praise the Sun. Dark Souls: Remastered is real and is coming to Switch. This is the first in the series to find it's way through the dark to the light of Nintendo and is being released on May 25th. It will include the DLC Artorias of the Abyss and updated visuals.
That wraps up the news from Nintendo's Direct Mini today and it is nice to see the company showing off a mix of games.
