Flood hit Hello Games insurance woesPlatforms: All
Developer of the recently announced and highly anticipated No Man's Sky, Hello Games were struck by floods on Christmas Eve following the storms that ravaged the UK. The river adjacent to their offices broke its banks and wiped out most of the company's equipment before anyone was able to rescue it.
To add to their woes, they've now revealed that the fact that the office was in an area at risk of flooding their insurance company are unlikely to pay out to replace lost equipment. We're hoping that data was backed-up offsite, but the loss of so much expensive hardware is likely to cause significant problems for the indie dev.
BAD NEWS! Had a 'hilarious' call with insurer yesterday. Small print is if you are in a flood risk zone, you are not insured for flooding :(— Hello Games (@hellogames) December 28, 2013
It's a terrible thing to happen to anyone, and coupled with the time of year and the fact that the company appear to be working on something truly groundbreaking is terrible news for both those affected directly and us gamers. We're hoping Hello Games are able to bounce back from this setback and get development of No Man's Sky back on track soon.
