Yakuza 7 has been officially announced and features turn-based combatPlatforms: Sony PlayStation 4
Sega has officially announced Yakuza 7: Whereabouts of Light and Darkness, (though the English release will be named Yakuza: Like a Dragon) for release in Japan on January 16th, 2020, with a Western release announced for later in 2020.
Check out the first trailer for Yakuza 7 below.
From Gematsu's report, Yakuza 7 will take place in the new location of Isezaki Ijincho, Yokohama, which is supposedly more than three times the size of Kamurocho in Tokyo. Players will also take control of a new series protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, as he 'makes his way up from the depths of despair'.
While the new character and setting are huge changes for the series, the most notable and drastic change comes in the form of turn-based battles, a far cry from the chaotic, action game fighting in previous Yakuza games. Yakuza 7 will use a "live command RPG battle system". Players, controlling Kasuga and his party, will select techniques with effects such as recovery, support, and attack, among others. It sounds very much like a fresh take on Yakuza's arguably stale combat system.
