Steam to allow game sharing between users

Platforms: PC

Valve have announced a Steam Family Sharing feature for their popular PC digital distribution platform. Allowing you to share your games library with up to ten friends and relatives, you’ll be able to access games across different accounts and have distinct saves and achievements via the Steam cloud. Access to some games may be restricted by “technical limitations” (like the need for a CD key) but this is certainly an exciting feature - and not entirely unlike that floated by Microsoft for the Xbox One, before it was shot down in flames.

You can sign up for the beta by joining the Family Sharing Group on the Steam community. It’s due to kick off mid-Sept.

We need your help

Running a website like The Digital Fix - especially one with over 20 years of content and an active community - costs lots of money and we need your help. As advertising income for independent sites continues to contract we are looking at other ways of supporting the site hosting and paying for content.

You can help us by using the links on The Digital Fix to buy your films, games and music and we ask that you try to avoid blocking our ads if you can. You can also help directly for just a few pennies per day via our Patreon - and you can even pay to have ads removed from the site entirely.
