LucasArts canned by Disney
Last night, the gaming world was rocked by the surprise announcement that Disney have shut down LucasArts - the gaming division of LucasFilm they acquired as part of their buy out of the parent company.
LucasArts are one of gaming's longest surviving studios and their closure will mark the end of an era that brought us many classic, timeless games. Whilst their output had gone of the boil in recent years - the last two Star Wars: The Force Unleashed games were a disappointment - they'll be fondly remembered as the company behind The Secret of Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, Rescue on Fractalus, Night Shift and more.
The studio were, at the time of closure, working on the Next-Gen targeted Star Wars: 1313 and this has now been reportedly been scrapped along with another a rumoured new project that had just kicked off. It is expected that Disney will instead licence the various LucasArts brands to third parties.
