The Pokémon Company announce four new titles, including a new Detective Pikachu on Switch, and Pokémon Sleep

Platforms: Nintendo Switch | Android | iOS

The Pokémon Company held their Pokémon Press Conference at 2am UK time last night, revealing a slew of new games and apps, including a new Detective Pikachu on Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Home, Pokémon Sleep, and Pokémon Masters for mobile.

The Press Conference itself had me questioning whether I was dreaming. There was a plug for the upcoming Godzilla movie, some absolutely fantastic walk-on music, the English-speaking translator trying desperately hard not to burst into laughter at the script for Pokémon Sleep; the Press Conference had everything.

Let's dive in to these announcements, shall we?

First up, we got the reveal that a brand new Detective Pikachu game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. The 3DS original ended on a cliffhanger, and this new game will act as a "conclusion" to that story. If you've seen the recent film adaptation, Ryan Reynolds' Detective Pikachu was definitely not left on a cliffhanger, and last night's press conference confirmed that the video game conclusion will be different to that of the movie.

The Pokémon Company have said that "The details of this game are still a mystery...so keep checking back here for more clues". I would love to see the original remastered for Switch too, as many players will not have played it having released at the tail-end of the 3DS's life-cycle. Hopefully E3 brings a full reveal.

Next up, The Pokémon Company revealed Pokémon Home, a cloud-based service that will act as a way to store all of your Pokémon across the mobile games and the Nintendo Switch releases.

I instantly craved PlayStation Home, but y'know, with Pokémon.

Pokémon Home will connect with Pokémon Bank, Pokémon Go, Pokémon Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu, and Pokémon Sword and Shield. The service will give players the chance to bring over their Pokémon into each game. Trading will also be incorporated, with players only needing to log-in on their phone to access Pokémon Home.

If Pokémon hasn't been taking over your entire life enough at this point, then Pokémon Sleep is here to listen to you snooze. Intended as a way to encourage a healthy lifestyle, just as Pokémon GO has encouraged players to go outside, walk, and get exercise. Pokémon Sleep will track the user's sleeping time and players will be able to continue training their Pokémon even while sleeping. Presumably, players will be rewarded with Pokémon GO items for getting a good night's sleep. Pokémon Sleep will launch in 2020. To celebrate the reveal of Pokémon Sleep, which "several Snorlax were consulted on", Snorlax can now be found sleeping all over Pokémon GO.

Pokémon Eat Your Veg Kids! coming 2021

Alongside the reveal of Pokémon Sleep, a brand new Pokémon GO Plus was announced that will act both as a normal Plus, and will have new sleep tracking features. If I asked you to guess what The Pokémon Company named this new product, I guarantee you would never guess it. Only The Pokémon Company could get away with this: the new Plus device is officially called the Pokémon GO Plus Plus. It comes with a new design and the will send your sleep data to your smartphone via Bluetooth.

Look at this name and logo, just look at it.

Finally, the Pokémon Press Conference ended with the reveal of Pokémon Masters, a new mobile game for iOS and Android from DeNA.

"Pokémon Masters lets players experience a new type of Pokémon battling on the go, and it features many famous Pokémon Trainers from the long history of Pokémon video games. Gameplay has been optimized for smart devices, allowing anyone to casually pick it up and play".

Pokémon Masters will launch in 2019, with more details coming in June.

This art is lovely.

That's all the information from the Pokémon Press Conference, could all of this have been revealed with a press release? Yes, definitely. Am I glad we have been blessed with such a dream-like, "is this real?" press conference? Yes, more than anything.

If you'd like to watch the conference yourself, check it out here.

Next week is when the real good stuff will be coming as Nintendo are holding a Pokémon Direct focusing exclusively on Pokémon Sword and Shield for Nintendo Switch. That's on June 5th at 2pm for those in the UK.
