Space terror is fun in newly-revealed Journey to the Savage Planet
The Game Awards dropped trailers for loads of interesting and unexpected games, and one of these was Journey to the Savage Planet.
The trailer doesn’t give too much away about the game, which is to be a sci-fi first-person action game, however it does a great job of worldbuilding. You play as an explorer for Kindred Aerospace, the fourth best interstellar exploration company, who has crashed on a distant and mysterious planet (which is also probably quite dangerous, judging by the title “Savage Planet”. The world is bright and colourful, and the game clearly retains a fun tone rather than the dark and gloomy one you’d expect from such a circumstance.
The gameplay doesn’t seem too action-based however: “players are tasked with exploring, cataloguing alien flora and fauna and determining if the planet is fit for human habitation”. However the flora and fauna of a “Savage Planet” is probably a little more frightening and dangerous than the trees and bunnies of Earth.
Journey to the Savage Planet is the debut game of Typhoon Studios from Montreal, however the team behind it is made up of veterans who have previously worked on esteemed franchises like Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed and the Arkham Games, so it’s in experienced hands. It’s being published by 505 Games, who have a track records of publishing great indie games including Terraria, ABZU, and Payday 2.
You can embark on your own Journey to the Savage Planet using your PC, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One at some point in 2019.
