And, no, it’s not a war about dried fruit
Just before its première at TIFF, the trailer for The Current War has been released. It’s the first of two films about the race to light up the world, with the Eddie Redmayne led The Last Days of Night due to arrive sometime next year.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon will play Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse respectively, going back to the 19th century to look at the story of clashing inventors. As the title indicates, their differences lay in how the electric currents would be used, with Edison preferring direct, while Westinghouse wholly believed in alternating currents.
Nick Hoult will also feature as inventor Nikola Tesla, along with Katherine Waterston and Tom Holland, directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me And Earl And The Dying Girl).
There’s a little while until The Current War reaches these shores, with a release date of January 5th 2018 booked into the calendar.
