All the biggest and best news from last weekends San Diego Comic-Con wrapped up into a neat little bundle.
Surely the biggest piece of news to come out of last weekends San Diego Comic-Con was that of a crossover movie between Superman & Batman, which may or may not be titled Batman VS Superman. The news was announced by Man Of Steel director Zack Snyder, who brought out MoS actor Harry Lennix to read the following passage from seminal graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns:
“I want you to remember, Clark. In all the years to come, in all your most private moments, I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you.”
Safe to say, the crowd in Hall H went crazy. Snyder did mention that they would not be adapting the graphic novel for the big screen, but that it does serve as a source of inspiration for the movie. It was also rumoured over the weekend, but never confirmed, that we could see The Flash movie in 2016, followed by a Justice League movie in 2017. It certainly looks like DC & Warner Bros. are finally upping their game to take on current cinematic champions Marvel.
Speaking of Marvel, they had some news of their own to reveal. Joss Whedon announced that the Avengers: Assemble sequel, due for release in 2015, will be titled Avengers: Age Of Ultron. IGN managed to grab an interview with Whedon, where he revealed that even though it borrows the title, the new Avengers movie will not be entirely based upon the graphic novel of the same name, but will instead take the parts they need to make the movie. Whedon also stated that Ultron will have a new origin story, which will not include Hank Pym, aka Ant-Man. Pym, in the comic books at least, is the creator of Ultron, who (Terminator style) becomes self aware and becomes one of the Avengers greatest foes.
Taking the time to reveal a surprise of their own, 14 cast members from X-Men: Days Of Future Past took to the stage and delighted the joyous crowd. Director Bryan Singer had managed to put a few scenes together showing some wonderful shots for next years mutant epic. By all accounts the footage went down a storm and showed much promise.
Staying with the Marvel theme, footage was shown of upcoming Phase 2 films Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy. The footage included some close quarters combat, The Black Widow in action, The Falcon soaring through the air and the titular Winter Soldier picking up Captain Americas shield.
Whilst Guardians Of The Galaxy is still very early on in development, director James Gunn did manage to screen some footage of the animated adventure, which showed the overall tone of the film to be a goofy, fun, space opera type of adventure.
Never one to shy away from a crowd, Joss Whedon showed off the entire pilot episode of upcoming Marvel TV show Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. The crowd went wild, until star Clark Gregg told them that the second episode would be even better. Que pandemonium.
Television fans were also treated to footage from new season of The Walking Dead, Community season 5, the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special and a sizzle reel from Arrow season 2.
It’s the end, but the moment has been prepared for…
