As much as we’ve all tried to deny our true natures here at The Digital Fix Film Podcast we have to admit that there are indeed Y chromosomes amongst us, and as such we’re genetically predisposed to react favourably to certain types of films. Usually these are films that contain a plethora of action sequences, beautiful women, and gruff individuals not taking any crap from anyone (throw in excessive use of firearms and a mullet or two and we may end up high-fiving and grunting our approval throughout), but every now and then more philosophically minded films come along that in some way attempt to tackle bloke-ish conundrums like what it is to be a man in today’s society and can one man really change the system? Is there more merit in one type of man film than the other? We’re not sure, but we’re going to sit down and talk it out nonetheless!

So today for our Man Films podcast we’ve chosen three classics that one way or the other tick a number of the boxes that make a film so god-damn manly. They are: Dirty Harry, Don Siegel’s seminal cop thriller masterpiece that posed the question of whether a punk who robs banks and kidnaps children could feel lucky. Road House, Rowdy Herrington’s gritty, realistic portrait of the doorman industry peppered by a giddy cocktail of Western and Martial-Arts movie tropes. And finally Fight Club, David Fincher’s trippy 1999 rumination on social malaise and the emasculation of the modern man.
